Geography:
Ukraine is situated in East-Central Europe and divided into 24 regions and the autonomous republic Crimea. It is bordered by Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania and Moldova to the West, by Belarus to the North and by the Russian Federation to the North-East and East. To the South lie the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov.
Having the total area of 603,700 sq.km Ukraine is one of the biggest countries of Europe (it is 5,7% from Europe area and 0,44% from the world area). Ukraine is bigger than France, Spain, Switzerland, Germany and Poland.
The highest areas are in the South -Crimean Mountains (mt. Ramantkosh, 1,545 meters) and in the West - Carpathian Mountains (mt. Hoverla, 2,061 meters).The biggest rivers are Dnipro, Dnister, Danube, Desna, Pivdenyj (Southern) Booh.
Minural resources: iron ore, coal, manganese, natural gas, oil, salt and arable land.

Gift and Souvenir shops
In every city you’ll find an open-air market with souvenirs and gifts, they are plenty of different kind, size and thematic. So you’ll definitely find something memorable on your taste.
In Kiev it’s better to go to Andreevskiy spusk;
Odessa – Sobornaya square;
Lvov – Rynok square and Teatralnaya street.
Visa
If you are citizen of the following countries (USA, Canada, Japan, EU nations, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Andorra, Vatican, Iceland, Monaco, Norway, San Marino, Mongolia, Lithuania and the countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States (except Turkmenistan)) and you are going to stay less than 90 days over a 180 days period. You don’t need visa, just valid passport to enter Ukraine.
But if you enter Ukraine with the purpose of employment, permanent residency, study and work at the diplomatic missions of the USA in Ukraine or with any other purpose if they are going to stay in Ukraine for more than 90 days, visas are required.

Money and credit cards 
National currency in Ukraine is “Hryvnya” (UAH).

1 EURO = 10 UAH
Actual exchange rate you can check in a bank and exchange point in most parts of Ukrainian cities.
In most shops, restaurants, hotels and other places you can use VISA or Master Card. But it’s always better to check in advance. Using American Express or Dinners can cause some difficulties.
Shopping
In Ukraine, especially in big city centers you’ll find as big shopping malls as small markets with unique staff, souvenirs, artworks. Large state or department stores in Ukraine tend to open on Mondays to Fridays from 08:00 am – 19:00 pm, whereas small boutiques are generally open 11:00 am – 19:00 pm. But you will find that some shops mostly in tourist areas will stay open as late as 20:00 pm.
Working hours
State and public offices are opened from 9 am to 6 pm Monday through Friday, with a lunch hour from 1 pm as usual. The majority of stores are opened from 10 am to 9 pm. As for food stores, many of them work 24 hours without lunch break, a few – from 8 am to 8pm.
Water
To drink tap water it is recommended to be boiled for 10 minutes. Bottled water is easy to find in each supermarket and shop.
Weather and climate
The climate of the country is moderate, on the South Coast of the Crimea – Mediterranean and subtropical. The average winter temperature varies from -8 C in the north-west to 0 - +4 in the south. Summer is quite hot and dry, with occasional showers and thunderstorms. Average summer temperature varies from +18° to +25° C (between +64,4° and +77° F), though in daytime can get up over +35° C (+95° F).
