Belgorod-Dnestrovskiy. Travel between the centuries.

From the first moment it’s hard to imagine, that not long time ago it was celebrating it’s 2500 anniversary and it’s one of the oldest city in the world. Catacombs. Journey to the underground world.

For present time the only possible way to catacombs for tourist attraction open in s. Nerubayskoe, 15 km from Odessa. History of Odessa catacombs began more than 200 years ago, when it was quarry, where was getting a stone to built the city, in XIX century it was a shelter for robbers and smugglers, in XX century – for the revolutionaries, partisans and population of the city during Second World War. Similar underground caves exist only in Rome and Paris. However, if the total length of the Roman catacombs is about 800km, Paris is about 300km, the length of Odessa catacombs is estimated at approximately 2 500km.

Vilkovo – Ukrainian countryside
